Social media has become an effective channel for Irish businesses to engage with consumers in new ways. At eir Business Solutions, we’re on the lookout for SMEs who are using social media in clever ways. If you, or anyone you know, is a good example of a company doing social media well, we’re looking for you!
In our weekly Business Under the Spotlight feature on our Facebook Page we’re going to highlight an SME that has embraced social media and is creating a stir online through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram or any other social media platform.
The percentage of Irish businesses using social media grew to 61% in 2014, up from 48% in 2013 according to figures from the Central Statistics Office. Companies are using social media in many different ways: from responding to customer queries and providing customer support, to marketing and engaging with customers through competitions, loyalty rewards and surveys.
It’s no surprise that Irish SMEs are turning to social media; that is, after all, where they’re likely to find their customers. Approximately 60% of Irish consumers have a Facebook profile, 28% have a Twitter account, 24% are on LinkedIn and 18% are using Instagram. With so many people using social media for daily activities like catching up on the news, engaging with brands and communicating with friends, they now expect to be able to find businesses online too, and what’s more, they expect to be able to interact with businesses via social media.
Irish companies have responded to the changing environment and consumer demands, and as social media continues to evolve and become more visual and dynamic we’re seeing Irish SMEs become inventive in the way they’re reaching out to customers online.

So, does your business have an active blog or YouTube channel, do you run innovative competitions on Facebook or Twitter, do you give consumers a sneak peek of your new products via Instagram? If you think you’re using social media in a clever way why not tell us on our Facebook Page or email us at and your business could be next under the spotlight!
