Feature piece:

For this month’s newsletter we met with John Quigley, who is the trainer for our Business Care Centre based in Citywest. John originally learned his trade as a builder but following shifts in the economy John set his sights on the bright lights of the telecoms industry which was thriving at the time, commencing what would be a four year journey in Customer Care in Meteor to move onto Business Care for eir Mobile. Following this, John spent a year on the Faults Desk which led to his current role as a trainer.

What is the day-to-day role of a trainer?

As a trainer, I work closely with different teams on my floor including the mobile team, Commercial Faults, Service Desk and two Order Fulfilment teams. The managers typically report a need for training on a particular upcoming product, for example recently I helped supply training for the Advantage Wifi products. As soon as we recognise that training has to be provided, we put together a training plan to ensure the team’s needs are met.
From a product development side I am involved throughout the whole life span of a product, from when it is a mere idea on a piece of paper all the way up to launch, so I get to follow the progression and gain a vast knowledge on how it works.

What is your favourite part of your job?

The diversity of everything, from the types of people I work with to the products I help develop. I also like the challenge of getting a product from concept to development, even though there are often many barriers in the way.

What do you like to do to unwind?

When I’m not in work I like to play football – I’m an avid Liverpool fan and have crossed the pond to a few matches. I also like walking my Labrador, Lola, who is also my screensaver in case I miss her during the day!
